Are “Flushable Wipes” Flushable?

Nope.

Nope.

No. Absolutely not flushable.

Having had several conversations with people about the claim of “Flushable Wipes”, I felt compelled to write something. I think it’s very easy to disprove this false claim.

  • Put a “Flushable Wipe” into a jar of water

  • Take the equivalent amount of toilet paper and do the same thing

  • Close the jars and agitate them. Wait a day or two if you’d like.

  • The TP will become pulp. Now what about the wipe?

Marketers can claim anything they want. It’s up to the rest of us to dispel such fallacies. “Flushable Wipes” are no more flushable than paper towels, rags or money.

Aug. 25, 2021 Addendum:

At some point in the future, I expect there to be back-to-back Class Action Lawsuits because many municipalities and millions of people have been affected. Whenever I clear a drain clogged with wipes, I think to myself “Cottonelle should pay the customer back”. How can they claim Flushable after time has proven otherwise?

After watching a YouTube video sponsored by Cottonelle, I was surprised to see a previously respected Plumber named Roger Wakefield flush his credibility down the drain by recommending them. Anyone in the industry knows from experience that they are a problem because they are a constant source of clogs. Is this good for me? Believe it or not, it isn’t because my customers expect me to guarantee my work.
